6 1 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n S U M M E R 2 0 1 9 – 2 0 2 0 A sample of other noteworthy distance learning scenes from Spring 2020: ird grader Maddox P. wrote this poem about the NYC-wide nightly cheering at 7:00 pm, to honor all the healthcare workers who risk their lives during the COVID-19 pandemic. Above: Despite the pandemic, the 1st grade's bird study continued, uninterrupted. Here, a staff member from the Wild Bird Fund teaches students about roosters; Below: Advisees meet virtually with Leann Winn, Grades 9–12 Science Teacher and Advisor. Above: For its virtual Celebration of the Class of 2020, Trevor's A Cappella group sang a moving rendition of "Set Me As a Seal." e answer to "What's happening in this image?" on page 11. With a little help from mom, Yvonne Lin, then Kindergartener Roni I.-L. created this African grasslands diorama out of modeling clay, styrofoam balls, and fluff, as part of Ms. Whitbeck and Ms. Woo's class on habitats. Below is a Zoom shot of the entire class, with their wonderful dioramas. Ms. Lin, a designer, also hosted a headband-making workshop for the entire class in June. Of it, Kirstin Spielman, Dance and Performing Arts Teacher, says, "is short dance film has been a highlight of my distance learning experience…. I've asked Emily and Emanuel to continue to develop the work, which is based on Elizabeth Streb's choreography—whose Brooklyn studio the dance class was scheduled to visit last spring."
