0 9 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n S U M M E R 2 0 1 9 – 2 0 2 0 Round Square Conference in Morocco Initiated by the interest from Upper School students in the Palestinian Awareness Club and through the direction of Dacel Casey, Director of Community and Global Partnerships, four Trevor students and two faculty members visited Morocco in February to participate in a Round Square conference. Round Square is an internationally diverse network of 200 schools in 50 countries across six continents that connect and collaborate to offer world-class programs and experiences. Ms. Casey, who is also a Round Square representative, shares that "member schools want our communities to thrive, prosper, and care about each other, employing mutual cooperation." Trevor joined Round Square as a candidacy school in late July 2019. Some of the benefits of membership in Round Square include the ability to collaborate with schools worldwide through student exchanges, international conferences, and coursework. Students have the opportunity to participate in age-appropriate local, regional, and global conferences, bringing them together with students from different countries to share perspectives, debate topical issues, support local communities, and develop mutual understanding. Ms. Casey explains that its participation with Round Square allows Trevor "to create a structured student exchange and travel program that directly relates to our curriculum—one that builds global competence, awareness, and empathy." At its core, the Morocco trip exemplifies the spirit of Trevor's mission to develop global citizens and leaders. In a truly unique global experience, students were encouraged and able to learn about and support local communities. At the conference, Trevor students interacted with their peers from Elaraki School—the Round Square school that hosted the conference in Marrakesh. Together, they participated in thoughtful discussions, interactions, and debates. Trevor students also spent time volunteering at the village schools in Morocco. Additional trip highlights included a desert meal and safari. e trip to Morocco came only one month before the COVID-19 pandemic forced Trevor to physically close school and transition into distance learning. Trevor's participation in the Round Square conference was the school's last immersion trip, both nationally and internationally. Going forward, Ms. Casey shared plans "to have students participate in exchanges with our partner schools, attend the Round Square International Conference in England in September 2021, and participate in group exchanges for foreign languages." We look forward to further engagement with Round Square and the many possibilities the program provides.
