Toxic Masculinity
Keep New York City Above Water
Eleventh-grade peer leaders Ana Sofia H. and Michael N. lead a workshop
exploring the history and harmful consequences of redlining neighborhoods.
Students listen to part of a presentation by sophomore Georgia G.,
who facilitated this workshop with another 10th grader, Oscar S.
Participants examined depictions of women on television and in
recent films.
Sophomore Freja H. opens the session on Toxic Masculinity with a definition of
the term. She and cofacilitator Isa J., also a sophomore, led participants in a dis-
cussion of the ways in which masculinity can dominate the culture in
harmful ways.
Seniors Eva Merlino and Owen Wiese, climate change activists,
discuss the rising levels of water due to climate change and
what young people can do to slow this phenomenon.
