Alison Chustek Mindlin '05 Alison and her husband, Grig Mindlin, welcomed their son Axel on January 8, 2020. Axel joins older brother Zane and grandmother Donna Linton, Associate Director of Middle and Upper School Admissions. Class Happenings: 2000s–2010s "is May, I finished grad school (again). More than anything else, my three years at the Kennedy School of Government and the Wharton School have taught me how to hold complexity, but not so tightly that you can't act. In his graduation speech, Martin Baron, editor of the Washington Post, focused on Harvard's motto, 'Veritas,' and called on us to 'reveal the world as it is.' Will Packer '05 "In that spirit…my path to this point required much hard work, but the hike was mostly downhill— I just had to stay on track to make it here. But for the vast majority, the path is uphill and littered with obstacles—not only at places like Harvard, but also in our local schools, at the polling place, the nearest hospital, the streets around our homes, and the Central Park Ramble. I'm thankful for the skills I've gained, the new relationships I've formed, and the opportunities that will present themselves now that I have three Ivy League schools and ten letters next to my name. I worry it is easy for those of us who have reached elite status in one way or another to feel like we need to protect it, especially if we have spent so much time striving to get it. One can find meaning that way— by identifying with an exclusive tribe and protecting it. But there are better ways. "I have been encouraged by the many people I have met at Harvard and at Wharton (and at Trevor) who intend to really spend their status. Real people who are willing to lose something—popularity and being liked, communication with their family, or just enjoying time with loved ones—to help other people. And I'm thankful for all the people who have made the past three years what they were for me. "So while I certainly appreciate the thought, congratulations are not needed! I'm set. I would rather you join me in trying to use our advantages to level the playing field for everyone else. We can thank each other along the way." Taylor Rathus '09 Taylor and her husband, Andrés Lamos, were married on June 6, 2020, in her parents' backyard in Westport, Connecticut, after having to postpone their original wedding plans. eir dogs' names are Simon (left) and Morris (right)!
