Spanning four decades, Emily's connection to Trevor and its community began in 1981, when she joined e Day School faculty as a Pre-K teacher. Drawn by the clearly articulated focus on students as both individuals and learners, as well as the deep engagement in curriculum development—not to mention the unmitigated joy in the classrooms—Emily began what has become a lifelong connection with Trevor. Beginning in the 92nd Street townhouse, which was home to the foundational experience for Day School students for many years, she remembers that "it was alive with energy and collaboration. I soon came to know that this is the core of Trevor—then and now." Emily taught 1st grade and began her admissions and administrative career at Trevor, of which she says "ose years formed me as a teacher and an administrator." She sees the flourishing expansion of curriculum and practice from then to now, and the continued Trevor engagement in inquiry as the path to learning. By way of example, Emily recalls that "we studied snails in 1st grade—we used inquiry and the scientific method as we observed, posed questions, and recorded data. And at the end of the year, each student went home with a pet snail!" One of those 1st-grade science students was Abby Roesch Diamond, now the Director of Learning Support for Grades 6–12! ose students of the eighties became the 8th- and 12th-grade graduates of the nineties and Emily regularly returned for the Fall Festival and commencement. Her years at Village Community School during the 2000s, as Upper School Director of Grades 6–8 and Director of High School Placement, tie her to the many from there who are part of the TDS community. And most recently, as Trevor's Director of Lower School Admissions and Financial Aid, Emily has enjoyed reconnecting with alums and seeing second-generation TDS students. What has most stood out for her over the years at Trevor? She doesn't hesitate to answer: "e Trevor voice that emerges dramatically each year at commencement—in the performances and speeches that, by tradition, form the ceremony. It's about connection— students, faculty, curriculum, growth, knowledge—and the ways they connect in depth, respect, and joy." at voice is also clear in the alum community, about which she says, "I look forward to all of the opportunities ahead to continue those connections, and to help grow the networks both of and for alums." n
