"My vision was to create a garden that could be used for many purposes, one that would be inviting to both individual students and larger groups. Whether for yoga, exercise, meditation, academic instruction, study, or reflection—this green rooftop space will be an extension of Trevor's classrooms and common areas. With the plants and sustainable nature of the roof's design elements, this space will naturally lend itself to the study of horticulture and other sciences. The ultimate goal is to create an inviting and happy place that can be used by the entire Trevor community. The vision to transform 4,000 square feet in the sky into a rooftop garden, for the community to focus on health, wellness, and mindfulness, is the gift of renowned artist and designer Maya Lin P '17. In her words: e see the roof as an exquisite oasis for students and faculty throughout the school day. —Scott Reisinger, Head of School The creation of the Community Garden is a tangible expression of Trevor's continuing commitment to health and wellness, as articulated in the Strategic Plan. It is a place that is sometimes formally scheduled ("Meditation will meet at 7:30 am on the roof"), and a gathering space for community events—both for Trevor and our Upper East Side neighbors. In fact, the design was inspired by Trevor's sense of community, which makes the school such a special place—one that is supportive, nurturing, and academically challenging, while also promoting a sense of individuality, creativity, and mindfulness. With the help and support of so many Trevor families, faculty, and staff, we have developed a space that is truly reflective of Trevor's mission and vision for the future."
