Bridge Journal Week 1: I worked solely with the East Campus kitchen staff this week. Lisa Lanzi, Executive Director of Operations, and Anna Alarcon, Food Service Supervisor, explained the kitchen's logistics, including the hot and cold bars, and the cooking schedule. They taught me about the importance of sanitation and the Department of Health's role. They also shared information about recent changes in food vendors and the ways in which they work to serve healthy food that students want to eat—not always an easy combination. They told me about the supply- and-demand aspect of their jobs—depending on the food they are purchasing and serving. They showed me the many tasks that must be completed throughout the day and allowed me to perform many of them. They were warm and thorough in demonstrating the kitchen undertakings. I experienced food preparation, food service, and clean-up. Not only did I learn a lot about cooking, but I also had the privilege of geing to know the wonderful kitchen staff. Many of them told me about their personal lives, including how big their families are, what television shows they like, and their cooking experiences. By working in the kitchen, I developed many questions that I will include during the interview process, and that I hope will make my documentary rich and informative. Bridge Journal Week 3: I worked with the kitchen staff some days, and during the others, Swapan Barua, East Campus Facilities Supervisor, gave me a mechanical and engineering tour of the 95th Street building. I entered every locked mechanical room, which was really cool. I got mini- lessons on boilers, generators, heat conversion devices, and I learned how green our building is. Mr. Barua also gave a thorough description of his responsibilities, which include managing the building's temperature, mechanics, and overall safety. I have also been preoccupied with my work on Romeo & Juliet, which is coming up very soon! My interview of the East Campus maintenance staff went well. I've spent a lot of time editing footage; I hadn't realized how time-consuming video editing could be. I look forward to completing many A poster announcing Jordyn's docu- mentary, Humans of Trevor. Project Components: n Internship with Trevor Operations Department n Creating a documentary about the experience Humans of Trevor by Jordyn Pykon '19 Project Statement: Humans of Trevor is a documentary focused on the lives (both personal and professional) of the Trevor operations staff. I worked hands-on in the kitchen and shadowed the maintenance staff, developing relationships with each staff member in the process. Each possesses a unique story and a special set of values that make them an integral part of Trevor's community. Through this documentary, I hope to convey their indispensable roles in making Trevor a safe and inviting place for all students, faculty, and staff. more interviews. I will eventually present my documentary with the rest of the student-created films. However, I also plan to hold a separate showing for the operations staff the night before—complete with catered food—to honor them. n Jordyn Pykon is a freshman at Lehigh University.
