Janie Slavens, Grades 6–8, Drama Teacher and Performing Arts Department Chair, just completed her thesis project at City College. Working collaboratively with 25 graduate students, she created an original ethnodrama about the #MeToo movement, based on original interviews and found text. She had the pleasure of working under the guidance of Amanda Gronich, a founding member of the Tectonic eater Project and co-author of e Laramie Project. e piece was performed at City College in mid-May. Debbie Wels, Lower School Music Teacher, had a monoprint on exhibit at the Salmagundi Club 47 Fifth Avenue and 12th Street. Leann Winn, Grades 9–12 Science Teacher, was featured as a member of the National Marine Educators Association. Leann is a member of South Fork Natural History Museum & Nature Center (SoFo); this summer, in Montauk, they captured, sample-tagged, and released seven juvenile white sharks (Carcharodon carcharias). ey collected blood samples, fin clips, and muscle biopsies. Births Mary Moran, Grade 4 Head Teacher, had a baby boy, Henry Sage Grainzvolt. He was born at sunset, on Saturday, April 6th, weighing 7 lbs. 14 oz. and measuring 20.5 in. long. Her daughter, Julia Grainzvolt, is now five years old and a big sister. Here, she greets Henry for the first time. Valentine Edgar, Grades 9–12 History Teacher, welcomed Astrid Schewe Valentine Edgar on March 11th. Rebecca Lancaster, Grades 6–8 Math Teacher, and her husband welcomed James Allen Lancaster, who arrived a full week early! Born on August 29th, he weighed 6 lbs. 12 oz. and was 20.5 in. long. Lisa Whitbeck, Kindergarten Head Teacher, and her husband, Rob, greeted their daughter, Layla Elizabeth Whitbeck, on March 22nd, at 10:31 pm.
