n Teacher recommendations will be accompanied by a card with the teacher's name, photograph, and statement explaining their recommendation. n Having raised over $1,200 for Cassidy's Place, we are challenging the community to purchase enough books to donate $2,000 to Cassidy's Place next year. n ere will even be a pizza party for the grade with the highest percentage of students who purchase a book. e greatest reward, however, will always be seeing adolescents, grandparents—and everyone in between— share in perusing, recommending, and enjoying reading and learning. On a personal note: As I was browsing the "classics" table, I discovered Watership Down. Every faculty member to whom I mentioned this title had either heard of it or read it—thus, a part of my own education had been furthered. As is often the case at Trevor, teachers find themselves the recipients of new knowledge. is is the ultimate way of demonstrating for our students what we want them to become: lifelong learners. And that means being lifelong readers. n We learn so much about each other's interests and backgrounds through sharing book titles. to make room for the book fair. In exchange, the college counselors saw our students at their very best, as they swapped book recommendations and settled into nooks to start reading the books they had just purchased.) One of the best things about working with Main Street Books is that they purchase books from different publishers—which meant we were able to feature faculty- selected books. In addition to the perennial titles (Bridge to Terabithia, A Wrinkle in Time, e Westing Game), we also carried a less well-known series of books: Ursula K. LeGuin's Earthsea series. Both Mr. Danenberg, our 7th- grade science teacher, and Mr. Smith, our Upper School drama teacher, highly recommended these titles. Who knew that these two teachers would share the same taste in literature? Indeed, one of my favorite email chains of the year is that of teachers submitting their recommendations. We learn so much about each other's interests and backgrounds through sharing book titles. Next year, we plan to improve several components of the book fair. n To encourage both Middle and Upper School students to purchase at least one book, we will issue to each student who buys a book a raffle ticket to win a basket of Trevor gear.
