At the time, he was an intern in the office of Valerie Jarrett. I was proud of him then, but I'm even prouder now: Two weeks ago, Alex announced via a Twitter video that he's running for the U.S. Senate in Wisconsin in 2022. at day, I started each of my classes by showing Alex's candidacy video. I talked about Alex: I taught him pre-algebra in 7th grade and algebra in 8th grade. He was my advisee and took my Rubik's Cube class during MiniTerm. (I omitted the goofy things the young Alex said and did. But I remember them!) I told my 8th graders, 'Your concept of the Trevor community is mostly limited to your classmates and teachers. But as you progress through Upper School, and later as alumni, that's when the Trevor community gets extended and stronger. e interconnectedness and support keep growing.' "Next summer, I plan to be in Wisconsin to help out on the campaign. I'm sure others from the Trevor community will be there, too." Claudia Folgar, Kindergarten Teacher and Co-Director of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, was recently accepted into the next cohort of the NYSAIS Emerging Leaders Institute, a highly selective two-year program during which emerging leaders from NYSAIS schools become members of a dynamic cohort, work alongside experienced school leaders, and develop a customized program to meet their own personal goals and objectives. She will begin this summer. Michael Danenberg, 7th Grade Science Teacher & Dean and Director of Professional Develop- ment, is currently in the second year of the program. Both Andy Wilson, Director of Lower School, and Abigail Diamond, Grades 6–12 Director of Academic Support, have previously completed the institute. (See next issue for info on Bruno's birth!) María González-Gil, Middle School French and Spanish Teacher, presented a seminar at Instituto Cervantes (Cervantes Institute) on November 4, 2020. e subject was "Benefits and the importance of playtime in the teaching of Spanish for the cognitive development of the student." Spiro Gouras, Grade 3 Head Teacher and Language Arts Curriculum Coordinator, married his partner, Peter, of six years in a socially distanced, small wedding ceremony. e attire was casual, but their dog, Filo, insisted on wearing a tuxedo! e pair had been navigating a long- distance relationship between New York and Indiana, and have recently come together geographically, now that Peter is teaching playwriting at Vassar College. Mr. Gouras would like to thank the Trevor community for putting up with years of ranting about the trials and tribulations of long-distance relationships. He and Peter are hoping to have a larger wedding party as soon as it is safe to do so. Major update! "After so many years, Peter and I want to try living in the same place. is summer, we will relocate to Poughkeepsie! So, dear Trevor, I am going to close the chapter on what has truly been the most wonderful place I have ever taught. "Why Trevor? In my interviews I felt liked and respected as my authentic self. e news of getting this job was the last thing I told my dad [before he passed away]. e kids! Trevor kids ask so many questions! I literally could weave through a curriculum while asking for advice from my class. e kids at Trevor know how
