In the unlikely event that a class isn't already offered, we typically do our best to find a faculty member—the range of skills and experiences of our teachers is seemingly endless—or even an outside vendor to add that class to the roster. The single most popular (and long running) class is Martial Arts. It is run by Howard Latting, who has been part of the Trevor community for more than 35 years. Open to students beginning in Pre-Kindergarten, many early childhood students enroll in this program and continue until they graduate. Several students have gone on to earn multiple black belts. Before COVID-19, the Martial Arts class was held only in the Lower School. Middle and Upper School students started joining the class with our 2nd–5th graders, with some students acting as teaching assistants in the Pre-K through 1st-grade group. We now run our Middle and Upper School Martial Arts classes on the East Campus. Although we miss having the older students come to the West Campus, the Middle and Upper School Martial Arts program has expanded dramatically since the class has been offered in their home building. Another favorite long-running class is Drama Dragons, taught by Erin Lee Kelly. Erin has been with Trevor for more than two decades. She also teaches private lessons in our Conservatory. Each spring term, students enrolled in Drama Dragons put on a full musical. Created in eight short weeks, they perform it at the end of the school year. Last year, the class performed You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown. We can't wait to see what the Drama Dragons do this year! Our Arts Conservatory originally began with music lessons—but over the years we've added a range of dance and theatre classes as well. Lessons are held in person on both campuses, via Zoom, or even in a student's home. The Arts Conservatory is also open to Trevor parents and siblings who do not attend the school. The AfterSchool Program and Arts Conservatory have been part of Trevor for more than 40 years. Nearly two decades ago, AfterSchool served a small number of students. Now, the great majority of Lower School students attend. During the 19 years of my running the program, I am proud to have seen it expand dramatically. n Lower School AfterSchool Program Nursery: Art, Core Program, and Fun Fitness.
