has been a huge step forward for me. I remember when I was in 9th grade working on a play, and how terrifying it was to step into that new environment; yet I had people who welcomed me and gave me the confidence to get where I am now. Working with a crew of predominantly 9th graders, I was given the opportunity to reciprocate the kindness I received years ago." The experiences of mentorship, peer-to-peer education, and technical growth are what Karolina valued most about her role as stage manager. "The director, Mr. Clark, and the technical producers, JR (Ms. Rathbone) and Mr. Sepke, helped the student leadership team manage the production with professionalism and dedication. I enjoyed the sense of community that comes with being a part of a production's stage crew. It strengthens the school because it creates inter-grade relationships, enables people to see different sides of people, and drives a group toward a common goal. If people have less of an individual mindset and more of a united approach, it makes the crew a team and creates a sense of harmony and solidarity. As the production progresses, the crew gets closer and becomes a family, which makes the final show so much more satisfying." Throughout each step of creating and performing Amélie, the cast, crew, and musicians not only advanced their crafts, but honored the opportunities to develop as people, learn from each other, and delight in the magic that was created together. As Mr. Miller recalls, "Everyone who was there really wanted to be there, and was dedicated to the process, to the teamwork, and to the artistry. When the students enjoy what they're doing—and are eager to stretch themselves and grow along the way—it makes it highly enjoyable as an educator." n AMÉLIE: TEEN EDITION CAST Amélie: Em F.
