I was at Madison Square Garden for his first 50-point game and was there when he broke the all-time three-point record. I just had my 40th birthday and there were some trivia questions at my party. Some friends who I made later in life didn't realize that I played basketball in high school, and they were amazed to hear how many points I scored in my career. In high school I probably thought it was very impressive, but it's another thing when you step out into the real world. You quickly realize that 2,000 points at an independent school where you played for five years (because you started in 8th grade) is very different from say, a Steph Curry. The perception versus the reality in that example mirrors my professional life. Once I stepped out of my teenage bubble into the larger world, what I thought defined me or what I envisioned my trajectory to be was very different from what I expected.
