Olafur Olafsson, AP'11, AP'13, AP'22 Alumni Parent and Former Trustee, Olafur Olafsson, AP'11, AP'13, AP'22, has a new novel out called Touch. Set at the start of the global pandemic, the novel is a love story with a mystery intertwined. In an interview with National Public Radio's Mary Lousie Kelly, Mr. Olafsson discusses the inspiration behind the story's creation. Kelly concludes the interview with the following summation: "I will say it's one of the huge challenges, is how you end a love story in a way that feels satisfying but not treacly and how you end a mystery in a way that feels satisfying and not totally outlandish. And without giving anything away, I thought you nailed them both." You can find Touch available from your local book retailers. Patrick DeVivo '12 Patrick DeVivo '12 shared this fall what he's been working on over the last year with his team. "We're now beginning to take the covers off what we're building at MergeStat, a company I founded in 2021 with a mission to enable open-source, operational analytics for software engineering teams, and I'm really excited to start sharing more of it! MergeStat began as an experiment, marrying two technologies (SQLite and Git) to explore the history of source code. At the time, I was really interested in certain "legacy" codebases (over five years of history, many engineers who had come and gone). Simple queries were a way to build a mental model of what teams and individuals had been working on which [sic] areas of a codebase. More use cases began growing out of this general interface (SQL on Git), and eventually a more robust MergeStat was born... We've seen use cases in code querying, engineering metrics, audit and compliance, security, developer onboarding, and more." Congratulations Patrick, and good luck with MergeStat's continued development! 56 / TREVOR MAGAZINE WINTER 2022–2023 56 / TREVOR MAGAZINE WINTER 2022–2023
