Trevor Translates: Our Division Directors by Scott Reisinger, Head of School, Emeritus Throughout the past nine years, I have had the pleasure of working with three remarkably gifted leaders: Director of Lower School Andy Wilson, Director of Middle School Rebecca Damas, and Director of Upper School Dan Feigin. All three were invited to contribute to this issue's Trevor Translates. What a team of division directors they have made, working together to ensure that Trevor is living true to its mission. Their collective work has brought to fruition our school's commitment to ambitious academics, engaged students, and balanced lives. I have so many memories of Andy Wilson. At the drop of a hat (excuse the pun), he loves to don the mascot costume: As the Trevor Dragon, he knows no equal. His sense of purpose, his good humor (a nod to all who have weathered our shared Dad Jokes at assemblies), and his love for all children motivate him on a daily basis. You can find Andy greeting students with a smile at the front door of the Andrew Goodman Building—regardless of the weather. He knows each child, and his tenure as Lower School Director has been characterized by his commitment to academics, inquiry-based learning, and advancement in how we teach and challenge children in reading, writing, and STEAM. He is that rare educator who both leads and inspires—children and colleagues alike. At his very core is the conviction that all children matter, all must belong, and that all are gifted. So, too, with Rebecca Damas. Rebecca is the consummate Director of Middle School. She has captained a steady ship to guide students through the often turbulent waters of early adolescence. Both a historian and mathematician herself, Rebecca lives a balanced life. She exudes a love for Trevor and for her Middle Schooler families, for whom she has been a skilled counselor. And she has committed her division to promoting rigorous academics, all the while understanding that the development of skills are the essence of middle school education. She has been a tireless advocate for children, and an honest and steady influence. She has led with integrity, and in this role she has earned the love and appreciation of her colleagues and students for over a decade. Daniel Feigin, the new Head of School, eats, lives, and breathes Trevor. Dan is, at his core, an educator. A Day School graduate himself, Dan has held just about every position at Trevor over the last 30 years. He has taught English, coached teams, served as Alumni Director, Middle School Division Director, and Director of the Upper School for over ten years. For those three decades he has dedicated himself to engaging all Trevor students; generations of them are in his debt. As Assistant Head and then Associate Head, he has been an energetic and deep strategic thinker who has helped transform the Upper School into one of the most successful schools in New York. And his energy— that classic Feigin energy—will now grace the Head of School office for, I predict, many years to come. Indeed, I have been fortunate to work with such brilliant colleagues, some of the best people I have known in my career. They have carried Trevor's torch well in our community—here and throughout the city—and I am pleased to know that they will continue to do so. They have kept Trevor Together, a light that has guided us in these past challenging years. Our school is a better place because of their presence. n TREVOR DAY SCHOOL / 25 INSIDE TREVOR TREVOR TRANSLATES FEATURE AR TICLES ALUMNI
