Jessica Carlson '11 Jessica Carlson '11 recently shared what she's been working on: Having co-founded the production company Lucid Media, she produced Davis Out of the Unknown, a documentary about her 7-year- old cousin, who suffers with Koolen-de Vries Syndrome (KdVS) and developmental disabilities. This documentary has garnered acclaim at international film festivals as well as in the medical community. Jessica, who raised funds and assembled a bi-coastal diverse team of up-and-coming Gen Z filmmakers, produced the film in partnership with the non-profit organization My Kool Brother, which she co-founded with her cousins and fellow Trevor alum Jack Lucas Carlson '13. Their joint efforts led to North Carolina officially recognizing February 28th as Rare Disease Day. Davis Out of the Unknown has been an official selection at the Austin Film Festival, was nominated for Best Documentary at NFFTY Film Festival, won the Grand Prize at Uno Sguardo Raro, and Best Documentary at Scout Film Festival. Jessica continues to prioritize DEI in her work, creating short-impact films on weeknights and weekends with Lucid Media, while she works as Director of Business Development at the entertainment company Sugar23.
