Dear Trevor Community: Whenever I think of Scott, an image of intellectual spirituality comes to mind. What I revere in him is the academician. Everything he puts forward is firmly grounded in history, literature, or pedagogies of learning. He is so rich in his references, and honestly, I'm a groupie for that. Having the basis of history at one's fingertips and being able to consistently draw on that knowledge makes his arguments that much stronger. And he loves it. He loves to talk about the history of humanity, and how we look to certain historic figures to learn. I know that I have learned so much from him. And then there is his spirituality. Even in those moments when things get a little rough—and, inevitably, they do get rough over the course of a child's life and education—he stays calm. He has an equanimity that is rooted in his spirituality, and he chooses to see the goodness in people. He considers what experiences have shaped a person and finds a direction on which to focus that can bring people together. And above all else, he is able to guide (and sometimes redirect you) in a way that is fundamentally about the human soul. That is an awesome superpower to have. To experience a global pandemic near the beginning of our working relationship was unique. COVID was a time in our lives where we needed people who could be strong for us and we held onto people who were important to us. Leading with him through that time has forever made him one of those people for me. I allow myself to become emotional about it now, but I think we worked well together through the pandemic because we weren't emotional. Instead, we called upon pragmatism, empathy, and above all, science to guide us forward. We knew our mandate was to kick into gear, come together, call on expert advice, and figure it out for the Trevor community. Scott wanted so much to hold onto in-person learning, and that is probably the only time in my four years as Board Chair that we have ever disagreed. A Letter from the President of the Board of Trustees In March of 2020, it was clearly time to close and send the kids home. But Scott, being such a fighter for education and for kids being where they should be, just didn't want to see that happen. It was such a triumph to reopen in person seven months later. From the very beginning and throughout the pandemic, we agreed that no one could be left behind. That every single person in our community be thought about, and that we do our very best to meet each person where they were. We tried to make it a period of time that every person could find a comfortable place, to the degree that this was possible. I feel as if the phrase Trevor Together germinated there. Yet, it also feels like Trevor Together has always been with us. Trevor Together is a reflection on Scott as a leader, and as our school as a community. We are developing collaborators, creative problem solvers, and empathic humans within these walls. This magazine issue alone covers interdisciplinary learning, world language and global study, how we use common spaces to empower students, and how the school is supporting our students' passions and the world's needs with a concentration in environmental studies. We are doing it all, Trevor Together. And, as a special treat, what better Alumni Profile for this issue, than Daniel Feigin, Class of 1984. As I wrote to you all in April 2022, "It is a rare and fulfilling occasion when a school witnesses a graduate come full circle and achieve such a leadership position at their alma mater." I hope you enjoy his profile, the articles updating you on the current goings-on, and the retrospectives looking back on our time with Scott. We dedicate this special issue of Trevor Magazine to Scott Reisinger, to celebrate him and to thank him for his years of keeping us, Trevor Together.
