WHAT YOU MAY HAVE M I S S E D Preparing Young People for Healthy and Holistic Relationships and Global Citizenship After a year of intensive curriculum mapping and development on the part of the diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) team and the entire N–12 faculty, Trevor has rolled out Mosaic during the 2023–24 school year. Mosaic is a DEI curriculum custom- made by Trevor educators for Trevor students (Nursery through 12th grade) to support the school's long-term goal of preparing young people for global citizenship. Mosaic promotes healthy and holistic relationships with one's self and others, the environment, and technology. The creation of the Mosaic curriculum was an imperative realized through community feedback gathered through the NAIS Assessment of Inclusivity and Multiculturalism. Its development was informed by Trevor's DEI Strategic Plan and the collaborative creativity of Trevor faculty and staff. Mosaic offers a series of develop- mentally appropriate lesson plans, facilitated by Trevor faculty twice per month, to foster the safety and well-being of students and community. The facilitators employ an inquiry-driven approach that encourages student exploration and discovery. Further, they create a secure environment by upholding respect and honor for all participants, in accordance with the group's established guidelines. Discussions and reflections upon curricular topics promote a deeper understanding of the multiple dimensions of human diversity; they cultivate a culture of respect and inclusion with the aim of launching global citizens prepared for pluralism and civic life. The program's curricular arc aims to raise awareness of the importance of empathy and to foster kindness and compassion within Trevor and the greater community. Each grade has a particular framework: • Nursery: Feelings & Emotions • Pre-K: Emotional Intelligence • Kindergarten: Abilities & Differences • 1st: Kindness & Forgiveness • 2nd: Gratitude & Appreciation • 3rd: Empathy & Compassion • 4th: Mindfulness & Multiple Intelligences • 5th: Digital Citizenship • 6th: Ethics • 7th: Cultures, Religions & Worldviews • 8th: Social Media & Technology • 9th: Mental Health • 10th: Race, Privilege & Socioeconomics • 11th: Sexual Identity & Gender Identity • 12th: Environmental Sustainability Student Rachel N. '25 says of Mosaic, "As a Trevor student, and as a member of the Student Diversity Committee, I value the opportunity to expand my horizons on topics often disregarded in an educational setting." n TREVOR DAY SCHOOL / 17 INSIDE TREVOR TREVOR TRANSLATES FEATURE AR TICLES ALUMNI
