An Image to Remember
This image, taken from The Day School's 1983 yearbook, shows the 7th- and 8th-grade
varsity soccer team.
Back then, we were a much smaller school, and didn't have
enough students interested in playing after-school sports
to create separate gendered soccer teams. Hence, we often
had co-ed teams that usually played against all-boy schools,
and this was true for soccer teams well into the late 90s.
This shot, taken in our usual soccer field in Central Park,
also shows how limited the grass coverage was, before the
Central Park Conservancy helped to restore and maintain
the fields.
Look carefully and you'll see a very young-looking Coach
Mirko Cavar, as well as the Feigin twins. Peter is third
from the left in the second row, and Dan, Trevor's Head
of School, looks a tad more serious. He is second from the
right, also in the second row. And I'm in the middle row far
right, just behind Dan's right shoulder.
