14 / TREVOR MAGAZINE WINTER 2023–24 Girls Varsity Tennis Head Coach Kenrick Guild, Assistant Coach Steuart Osha, and Assistant Coach Meredith Spiegel As we close out another incredible season, we take a moment to celebrate the hard work, resilience, and success of our Girls Varsity Tennis team. This year was filled with challenges, growth, and unforgettable moments that showcased the heart and determination of Trevor Tennis players. Core to this year's success was the stellar play of Elaine H., Sarah S., and Evie L. Their consistency and competitive spirit set the tone for the entire team, fueling our fight and determination throughout the season. Their contributions were invaluable and will help pave the way for a bright future. The doubles teams were tested this year, but a promising list of players, including Taylor D., Emelie D., Emma R., Emelie O., Olivia C., Tamara F., and Adele V., are on the horizon to accomplish even bigger and better things. Despite facing adversity, they remained committed and ready when called upon, displaying outstanding teamwork to get the job done. More than just wins and losses, this year was about progress and coming together as a team. Everyone stepped up in different ways, whether as a support to a teammate, cultivating positive attitudes, or acting as a leader. Special thanks to our talented seniors Saira A., Mahira B., and Amanda P. Varsity Cross Country Head Coach Gerard Connelly, Assistant Coach Isabel Esch, and Assistant Coach Josh Kingsley We were fortunate to enter the 2024 fall season as defending champions with much returning talent. Sometimes, it is hard to follow a year as successful as 2023, but the team surpassed expectations. Charlie G. '25 and Olivia L. '26 led the team by example, which guided our younger players to realize they are capable of great things. Early in the season, the team made a trip to Long Island to compete at the Bob Pratt Invitational, which took place at the famous Sunken Meadow State Park 5k course. Over historic hills and sandy terrain, our team finished 17th against one of the deepest and strongest fields in the state. What was even more exciting was that almost every team member set personal records on an extremely tough course. Our girls had a strong end to the season, despite graduating some important seniors last year. Olivia L. '26 and Abby M. '25 did much to build a foundation for success in the years to come with freshmen and sophomores who are excited to grow and compete. During our build up to the championship tournament, our boys saw athletes like Charlie G. '25, Theo Y. '27, Nathan K. '27, and Isaac K. '27 step up and take leading roles in helping the team prepare. NYCAL Champs turned out to be an unseasonably hot day that resulted in a close battle for the win between Columbia Prep and Trevor. With a final score of 42–57, Trevor's boys team proved focused and energized under pressure to take the win for the second consecutive season. It's always exciting to defend a title, but this win was particularly hopeful because of our team's young talent. Of our top seven scoring members, we had two freshmen, four sophomores, and one senior. We are excited to see how this team will continue to grow for years to come. Thanks to our senior leaders Luca B., Daniel B., Charlie G., Sasha K., Abby M., and Amelia W. for inspiring a very strong team with lots of fun, healthy traditions that will keep our team thriving for years! 14 / TREVOR MAGAZINE SPRING 2024–25
