STEVE DUDLEY Chief Financial Officer (2015–2025) DIANE QUINN Director of Publications (2009–2025) It is my honor, albeit a bittersweet honor, to bid farewell and happy retirement to Mr. Steve Dudley, Trevor Day School's long-standing CFO. Over a fruitful decade, Steve made an indelible impact on Trevor. Steve successfully led us to balanced budgets and strategic long-term financial planning through the completion of two highly complex building projects, the uncertainties associated with the pandemic, and an ever-competitive New York City independent school market. Trevor not only benefited from Steve's analytical and creative financial mind, but by the example he set as a kind and empathetic colleague. Never was that more evident than during the pandemic, when Steve worked tirelessly alongside the Board to keep our institution healthy and whole. Steve came to Trevor after a distinguished 30-year career at The Brunswick School in Greenwich, CT. There, Steve served as the Assistant Head of School and Director of Finance. Over the course of his tenure, he was also a member of the Math Department faculty, Director of Technology, and Director of Development. Prior to Brunswick, Steve worked at Crossroads School (CA), Greenwich Country Day (CT), and University School (OH). As is the case with Trevor, Steve left all his institutions better than he found them. Steve, I thank you for sharing a lifetime of expertise with us at Trevor. I thank you for leading by example. And I thank you for being a seasoned and thoughtful guide through the school's leadership transition. May you enjoy a happy and healthy retirement with your family. Daniel Feigin '84, P'26 Head of School How do you write a retirement tribute about your favorite editor, without your favorite editor? Diane Quinn and I pride ourselves in making each other's work better. We have fired copy edits and topic brainstorms and photo adjustments back and forth for over a decade, declaring time and time again that we welcome each other's feedback and are happy to share the pride of ownership. That synergy is not by accident. Language is an expression of identity, and the choices we make with words, structure, style can feel surprisingly personal. For many of us, there can be a "fight or flight" reaction to the editing process, and I've personally felt that anxiety or defensiveness when receiving significant edits. Not with Diane, though. Her mastery of words and absurdly keen attention to detail give her the highest rate of "Accept This Change" of anyone I've ever worked with. Even when we don't align perfectly on language, our back and forth has made my work better and our school stronger. Diane is a Doer, capital D. If you've never had the pleasure of having a Doer on your team, I highly recommend it. When you've got a deadline, or an overwhelming project, or 17 tasks to juggle, or a late-night epiphany to act upon, it is so utterly refreshing to have someone in lock step collaborating, picking up your slack, and getting things done. And although I have felt Diane's superpower consistently throughout our working partnership, never was it more evident than during the pandemic. The complexity, pace, and quantity of our community communications exploded during the pandemic, and Diane was a dedicated and constant partner to me and our school. It has always been a source of pride that so many at Trevor employed an "all hands on deck" mentality throughout that difficult period, and Diane was no exception. So, as we send this Doer off to do all the things a Doer does during a well-deserved retirement (the list already includes art, photography, and more than one book club), I wish her all the good health and happiness in the world. Keep doing, Diane. Relish in all you've done for the Trevor community. And please don't worry about editing this one. I hope the sentiments are perfect in their imperfections.
