In Middle School, students engage in Mosaic with their advisory group or partnered advisory groups. Each grade level has a theme around which all of the lessons were created by the grade-level teams of teachers. Although the themes are different, in all three grades the lessons are constructed to allow for student exploration, engagement, and discussion with the teacher as the facilitator. Brainstorming, role playing, responding to different scenarios, hands-on activities, and perspective sharing in a safe and supportive space are common in Mosaic lessons. The first Mosaic meeting is a time for students to create best practices and norms for the sessions that will follow. Additionally, every lesson ends with an exit ticket for students to share thoughts about the lesson. This allows teachers to respond to anything that materializes and adapt future lessons. Mosaic is truly an evolving curriculum that is responsive to the needs of Trevor Middle School students. The 6th-grade Mosaic lessons center around Ethics. The guiding preamble for the curriculum states that ethics, the study of universal principles of fairness and respect for all people, is essential for students' individual lives, community, and society as a whole.
