Chinese Flank
Steak Stir Fry
Lui-Martin Family
Liam '27
This is an all-purpose Chinese stir fry recipe I learned
from my mother and grandmother. I cook it only for
myself because both my kids are vegetarians!
INGREDIENTS
½ pound of flank steak cut into
approximately 1" pieces
1 small onion or 4 stalks of scallions
roughly chopped
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon minced ginger
1 tablespoon of cornstarch
1 teaspoon of garlic powder and/or
ginger powder (to taste)
1 dash of crushed red pepper flakes
4 tablespoon of soy sauce
2 tablespoon of cooking sherry
2 tablespoon of vegetable oil
(not olive oil)
DIRECTIONS
1. Put the raw and cut-up flank steak in a bowl. Add the
cornstarch, garlic or ginger powder, red peppers, minced
garlic or ginger, soy sauce, sherry and vegetable oil.
Mix well in the bowl, so the flank steak pieces are
marinating in the slurry.
2. Put some vegetable oil in a wok (or frying pan) at high heat.
Add the onion/scallions and garlic/ginger to the wok, stir fry
for 1 minute. Add flank steak pieces to the wok. Stir fry very
quickly until flank steak is brown (about 1–2 minutes).
3. Remove from heat and serve over rice.
n Feel free to improvise with different meats and vegetables.
