Rebecca Damas, US assistant Director, continues her three-year term on the editorial panel of Mathematics Teaching in the Middle School, one of the journals of the National council of the Teachers of Mathematics. Rosalie Hughes, Grades 1–5 learning Specialist, attended the erB conference in october 2014. Ms. hughes gained insight into the future of standardized testing, heard about exciting initiatives across the country, such as creating sustainable in-house professional development programs, and learned that brain research is being translated into practical ideas for the classroom. on a personal note, her daughter lindsay hughes Wands '96 and son in-law Michael had their third child, andrew Day, in February. he joins older siblings Maisie (5) and James (3). on December 13, 2014, Jacob Kramer, Grades Pre-K–5 Music Teacher, played classical guitar to accompany e Glass Menagerie's performance of Navidad Nuestra by ariel ramirez. Dora Kwong, Grade 3 english and Mathematics Teacher, and Spiro Gouras, Grade 3 english, history and Science Teacher, attended a winter 2014 workshop run by e Makery, focused on interweaving digital code with the physical world. Mary Moran, Grade 4 english and history Teacher, and her daughter, Julia eve Grainzvolt, excitedly celebrated Julia's first birthday on January 21, 2015. Lauren Portada, Grades 9–12 Fine arts Teacher, participated in three exhibitions from July through December 2014, including one solo exhibition; her work was also featured in the book e Golden Age by Nutureart. e exhibitions were Soggy Boggy Squitchy Pictures (solo) at Kent School Gallery, NJ; anks, elizabeth Denny Gallery, Nyc, curated by Adam Parker Smith; and e Rhythm at Laughs You, curated by Javier Sanchez, Tina Kohlmann, and lauren Portada, Flux Factory, lIc, Ny. In November 2014, Drew Richardson, Major Gifts coordinator, produced an event at Symphony Space benefiting First Book-Manhattan. Terrific Tails: A Celebration of E. B. White featured readings by David hyde Pierce, Jane curtin, Michael Potts, liev Schreiber, Naomi Watts, and was hosted by children's book author Jarrett J. Krosoczka. With the funds raised, First Book-Manhattan will distribute thousands of books to literacy centers, schools, and Nyc children who need them most. Laurie Roth, Performing arts chair and Grades 6–12 Dance Teacher, became a certified Yoga teacher in the fall of 2014 after completing 200 hours of teacher training. Ms. roth currently teaches a 7:15am yoga class to 15 hS students and hopes to offer a class for faculty starting this February. Diane Stein, Grades 1–5 head art Teacher, was in a group art show during the summer of 2014, entitled Decade of Decadence: Celebrating 10 years of Cinders Gallery at Dossier outpost, Nyc. She will be featured in a group art show February 7–March 15, 2015 at hooloon Gallery in Philadelphia, Pa entitled duplicate. until response. Ms. Stein welcomed her son, arlo Forest Stein, on october 29, 2014. Jennifer Stringer, lS Instructional Technologist and Karen Johnson, Grade 3 english, history and Science Teacher, will present a workshop featuring iPads in language arts Instruction at the NySaIS Teaching With Technology conference on February 11, 2015.
