e Trevor Day School High School Writing Advisors Program seeks to provide carefully selected, highly trained student and teacher Writing Advisors to collaborate with student writers on writing assignments in all subjects, at every stage of the writing process. e goal of the Writing Advisors Program is to empower exemplary writers to become experts, emphasize to all students that writing is a process, and to strengthen the caliber of writing across the curriculum. and grow through this leadership role. Not to mention that Writing advisors can gain experience for college writing centers while earning community service hours. When they join the program, advisors read a Writing Center handbook and a best practices book for writers. e Writing Center staff also participates in weekly training and debriefing sessions as a team. Writing advisors volunteer for 60-minute shifts each cycle and typically confer with up to two clients per shift. clients sign up for conferences in a sign-up book that is located in e Writing center. Both the Writing advisor and client are enriched during the dynamic process of the conference, as is the writing. Ms. Siu recognizes this growth in the years she has been at Trevor. "Student writing has improved dramatically as student collaboration around writing has increased due to the establishment of e Writing Center. rough thinking about their writing with someone other than their teacher, students are able to strengthen their understanding of the writing process and of how to build more sophisticated and compelling arguments." e Writing center embodies Trevor's values and vision, and its impact on student outcomes is undeniable.
