and the smallest movements can create an electrical potential that can overwhelm the signal we are seeking. Using Micah's footage, the research team can determine whether a spike in electrical potential represents an actual burst of brain activity, or something as innocuous as a cough or a blink. In addition, the footage will provide a window into the challenges and opportunities that have accompanied this novel approach to science education and research. With many months still to go, we inevitably begin to wonder what we will learn once the experiment concludes. of course, the answer is that it is impossible to guess, and that is precisely what makes this such a remarkable learning opportunity. We are working at the very edge of scientific discovery, and the potential results range from a major breakthrough to a pile of data with no discernible signal. along the way, however, Trevor students are experiencing firsthand what it means to perform a genuine scientific study. And that is a model for science education that can prepare students for an increasingly complex and information-rich world. a lifelong passion for science is being ignited in Trevor students, and these young scientists are gaining valuable teaching experience that will help them throughout their careers.
