A Powerful Guide is past September, Trevor's 11th graders embarked on an overnight trip to Washington, D.C. e trip offered opportunities for service, class bonding, and a rare inquiry-based learning experience at one of the nation's most powerful landmarks. Upon arriving in D.C., the students immediately delved into an afternoon of service at community organizations, including Martha's Table, A Wider Circle, Veteran's Retirement Home, Central Union Mission, and the Capital Area Foodbank. e diverse organizational missions and varied projects provided a crucial layer of growth and learning in the ongoing commitment by Trevor students to make community service a pillar in their education. After hours of giving back, the students moved on to a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity—touring the Vietnam Veterans Memorial with its designer and Trevor parent, Maya Lin, as well as a group of veterans. e students and faculty described the experience of being led through the Memorial by Ms. Lin as profoundly moving and rewarding. Students were able to pose questions and examine theories of art, architecture, and even history with the extremely talented and insightful Ms. Lin as their guide. High School Science Teacher and Science Department Chair, James McClintock, remarked, "I first visited the Memorial with my parents many year ago. Even as a young teenager, I was struck by the reaction of my mother, in particular, who quietly wept as we walked along the wall, overwhelmed by the simple power of the Memorial. To have Trevor students visit the Memorial with its designer, along with a group of veterans sharing their personal experiences, was a unique opportunity that I will never forget." My own father was in Vietnam during the war, and although I'd visited the Memorial before, being there with the creator and the veteran volunteer guides was remarkable. It was an almost spiritual experience—somehow the weight of all the history of our country, the tumult of that generation, that war, those times—it all washed over me with great force as I stood there listening to Maya talk about her creation. Micah Schaffer, Grades 6-12 Video Arts Teacher and Advisor Homecoming Trevor's new fall tradition, Homecoming, took place in late September, offering two days of school spirit, family bonding, and stellar Trevor athletics. On the evening of Friday, September 25th, the students adorned themselves in Trevor gear (and lots of face paint!) and packed the gym to watch Girls Varsity Volleyball face Grace Church School. Amidst a sea of red and black pompoms and cheer sticks,
