experienced most recently, our Pre-K students studying the ways in which people age, and asking me where most of my hair went. is is inquiry-based learning at its best, and it is impressive to see students immersed in it as I visit every classroom. In balance with all of this is a curriculum enriched with special subjects. e art you'll see on the walls, the brass and woodwind music you'll hear coming from our music studios, the highly contextual Spanish and library programs, and the exciting offerings of our physical education team (working both in our gym and in Central Park)—all of these allow the children to shine in many different ways, and they reflect Trevor's belief in valuing and nurturing the whole child. And speaking of Central Park— here is a resource that keeps all of us in balance on a daily basis. It's basically Trevor's backyard, and it is utilized by every grade, as much as possible. For recess and for curriculum, Central Park is both a playground and a lab, a place of beauty and of study—it contributes to our school in so many ways. Trevor is extremely lucky to have it right at our students' fingertips. And I mean that literally—our students return home with a lot of dirt under their nails (but it's "educational" dirt, so it's a little less gross). Probably the most significant aspect of Trevor's balanced approach lies between home and school life. From my very first parent meetings, I knew that Trevor was a place in which everyone's primary focus is the growth of our children. To that end, Trevor has created a culture that allows our school and our families to work in partnership. Whether it's the family conference where the student, teacher, and parents all set goals together, the numerous parent-led committees, the community breakfasts, or the swells of families congregating in the lobby at the end of a school day, it truly feels like a place where everyone is welcome and valued. Most important of all, Trevor children see that and model it back in their own classes, communities, and relationships. All of these things come to mind when a parent asks me why I came to Trevor. All of these aspects are balanced so deftly, and within such a purposeful and well-crafted program, that it's impossible not to feel the sweet spot our school dwells in. is is what brought me here. is is what led me to make this school— and this community—my new, chosen family. n 2 1 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n FA L L 2 0 1 7 – 2 0 1 8
