around the world learn about the history of the Holocaust and examine the roots of prejudice and hate. For several weeks after his travel, Josh interned with the founder and CEO of FinSight, a technology start-up that focuses on financial products. ere he was able to flex his tech muscles, with an eye to a future career. He also completed a service internship with Trevor's communications and marketing department, providing valuable work products for the school, including advancements to social media and the website. Josh also participated in two Bridge seminars: "Subprime Mortgages and the Fall of Lehman Brothers" with History Department Chair David omas, and "e History of Presidential Elections" with Head of School Scott Reisinger. roughout the entire Bridge semester, Josh continued his coursework in advanced calculus and his commitment to A Capella, Trevor's advanced ensemble for the most experienced choral musicians. Year after year, strong management, consistent attention to the program's nuts and bolts, and an effective structure for mentorship ensures a successful program. A member of the Trevor faculty works with each student as a Bridge advisor. ere is also a Bridge coordinator, who supports all students and advisors throughout the process. Kirstin Spielman, US Dance Teacher and Class of 2021 Dean, has served in this role for the last decade. According to Ms. Spielman, "Working with the seniors as they develop their Bridge projects is a magical experience. My role is to guide each student as they cultivate their interest and passion. e seniors know themselves and they are able to thoughtfully develop projects that are creative, rigorous, and innovative. It has been hugely fulfilling to collaborate with the seniors on Bridge." Bridge projects begin in early April and run through the end of the school year. Prior to the April start date, faculty-led seminars are announced in November; first drafts of written proposals are due in January; and final proposals are due in February. Proposals must present clearly designed projects with well- thought-out anticipated outcomes. If students choose more than one focus, they are asked to demonstrate the connection between them in their proposals. Parents are also encouraged to join the planning process within their own families, to help their child navigate this pivotal proposal process during senior year. Students submit weekly updates to their advisor during the Bridge period, as well as a final dossier during the last two weeks of the semester. Presentations are given in front of peers, faculty, administration, and other invited guests, and a Bridge perform- ance evening is also scheduled to highlight those projects dedicated to the performing arts. During the 2017 Bridge Performance Evening, five students presented, showcasing a range of endeavors from original composition and choreography to instrumental performances. Included in this group was Dylan Bresnan, who composed and performed original instrumental pieces. He featured several Trevor students, as well as his sister, Bettina '13. Each year, the variety of topics, sophistication of project design, and ultimate depth of study are sources of pride for the Upper School division and for Trevor as an institution of learning. e list of achievements goes on and on…. Class of 2017 graduates Bella Newman and Ambia Elias traveled to South Africa for three weeks, where they interned with two nonprofit conservation organizations: Wildlife ACT and Wild Tomorrow Fund (WTF). With Wildlife ACT, they participated in sessions to monitor and track animals. ey helped to identify endangered species such as the black rhino—monitoring their behavior and assessing the safety of their environment. At WTF, which is also dedicated to the protection of threatened and endangered species and the habitats on which they depend for survival, they were introduced to crucial animal reserves and auctions to improve the gene pool, helped manage social media for the organization, and concluded their time by creating a documentary about their experience.
