On another cold night in February—back in 2004—Trevor's Board of Trustees and Parents Association sponsored an event entitled East Meets West. e concept was to bring parents together from both the Lower and Upper Schools, particularly so that Lower School parents could become more familiar with the Upper School faculty, programs, and facilities. Dinner was held in the 88th Street gym. Every table was "anchored" by a faculty member and an Upper School parent, both to answer questions and provide easy mingling. Josie Holford, then the High School Division Director, moderated a panel with students, who also answered parents' questions. en it was time for parents to take a class! Approximately eight classes were offered and assigned by lottery. Subjects included English, history, math, science, and world language. is highly successful event gave Lower School parents access to important conversations with the Upper School faculty as well as students in higher grades and their parents. And not a few friendships were forged that night, too. East Meets West: the auditorium for a closing Recap and Reflection. During the question-and- answer period, one parent asked, "How do you make this good teaching possible?" Head of School Scott Reisinger didn't miss a beat in replying: "e answer is hiring gifted educators who are passionate about their subject, who grow constantly as lifelong learners, and who place students at the center of all that they do." He added, "e answer also involves our commitment to faculty and staff professional development and constant rejection of the status quo. Teaching at Trevor is a unique experience of engagement in academic and personal excellence—for our students and for all members of our community." And that includes Trevor parents.
