Clodagh McCloskey '96 Trevor Grade 3 Head Teacher Perhaps the highest compliment an alumna can give to Trevor is returning to the school to join its faculty. Recently, it was a pleasure to sit down with Clodagh McCloskey, now a 3rd-grade teacher, to talk about her education at Trevor and her return to the school she loves. Are there any Trevor values that you experienced as a student and now try to instill in your students as a teacher? e relationships between teachers and students at Trevor have always stood out to me as being unique. I remember missing those bonds when I left for college. It's not only that our teachers were good at their job, it was that each of them brought their passions, their style, and even their quirks to class. ey were real, whole people who believed in us and shared in the long conversation (so to speak) of growing up. at is what I strive to bring to my 3rd-grade students: a connection that both challenges them as learners and reaches them as humans. What is your greatest experience as a teacher? is may sound like a cliché, but in all honesty, my best experience as a teacher happens all the time—when suddenly a kid just "gets it." Not really in a "wow, I have this new skill" kind of way; it's more when they surprise themselves and I see this mix of joy, shock, faith, and pride burst onto their faces. When did you realize you wanted to teach, and when did you start teaching at Trevor? Why I wanted to teach has everything to do with how I felt about my teachers! So many of them were my idols, and after I did a stint of working with kids in Vermont, it just clicked in my mind that it was time to pursue a career in education. at was nine years ago.
