A Letter from the Head of School Dear Trevor Community: In nearly three years as Head of Trevor Day School, I have been inspired by the extent to which our community works together and accomplishes so much. From the rich day-to-day experiences of our students, to the myriad achievements of our graduates, Trevor continues to grow and thrive as a diverse community of lifelong learners, leaders, and global citizens. ese past six months have been witness to many notable events at Trevor, one of the most important of which was the presentation of the 2016 Strategic Plan, an exercise that required deep dedication and bold goal setting from all of the school's constituencies. e plan sets a course that supports our overriding ambition: to be the premier inquiry-based independent day school, and the recognized leader in inquiry-based education—both in New York and beyond. By embracing this aspiration, we build upon our long-standing commitment to inquiry as the foundation for teaching children, and our historic approach to experiential education in all its facets. Indeed, inquiry-based learning and teaching embrace a philosophy under which many pedagogies find a home, all united in the conviction that the focus of education must be the development of academic and personal excellence, expansion of creativity and problem solving, the promotion of the inherent giftedness in children, and the encouragement of good and motivated people who go forth to change the world. I know you will recognize these commitments in all that we do at Trevor and in the following pages. e 2016–17 Trevor Magazine winter issue offers a glimpse into the life 0 3 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n W I N T E R 2 0 1 6 – 2 0 1 7 of our school: its mission, philosophy, programs, alumni, attainment of financial goals, and ambitions for the future. is publication is a microcosm of the totality of the Trevor experience, and celebrates some of the current accomplishments of students, faculty, staff, alumni, and parents.
