1. Science Poster A highlight of this grade's science curriculum is the study of rocks and minerals. For one project, students try to identify 15 mystery rocks and minerals using their observation skills, performing the hardness test, streak test, and checking its magnetism and density. 2. Union the Turtle In 2007, Henry Molinari '14 donated his 6-year-old turtle to my homeroom. Union is now 17-years-old and a happy member of the Trevor community. 3. Herman Miller Chairs These are two of the remaining vintage chairs by Herman Miller. They were originally used in the faculty lounge at The Day School since the early 1980s. The students absolutely love sitting in them! 4. The Ruby Slippers This is a prop from MiniTerm 2005: Cinderella Stories. My group performed a mini-musical called The Taming of the Shoe, written by Pre-K teacher Ms. Golanka and me. This show was performed again for MiniTerm in 2012. 5. Dude's Ashes Dude, Trevor's real dragon, fascinated and inspired students of all ages for many years. He was given to us by Samuel Murkofsky '05 in 2000. Dude passed away on January 7, 2016. He was 18-years-old, a long life for a green iguana. Dude was cremated; his ashes are held in this engraved wooden box. 6. Random Acts of Kindness This is a homeroom project in which students are asked to recognize when others perform acts of kindness—as well as when they do so themselves, especially for people they don't know. 7. Math Scavenger Hunt This is a math activity in which students survey the classroom—clipboards in hand—and calculate the math question on the card. In this scavenger hunt, students are multiplying fractions and need to locate the 12 cards that are hidden in plain sight. 8. Oscar Award for Best Teacher In 2002, when she was in my homeroom, Francesca Calo '09 gave me this gift. I always wanted an Academy Award! 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 Faculty Habitats Tom Scholz m Grade 5 Mathematics and Science Teacher
