A Letter from the Head of School Dear Trevor Community: Some 15 years ago, I was introduced to a book that helped to shape my perspective on being head of a school. Parker J. Palmer, the respected educationist, wrote an inspiring work, Let Your Life Speak: Listening for the Voice of Vocation. Palmer argues that each and every one of us is called to something important—a vocation—and that we owe it to ourselves to understand and communicate the stories that connect the various aspects of our life experiences. is vision is akin to what my former English professor Russell Peck told us (as first-year students), that we should reread e Iliad every five years, for Homer's classic speaks to us differently, depending upon our stage in life. Both educators made an important point: Individually and collectively, we need to look back upon those stories that define us, for it is in them that we can recognize the patterns of vocation as they emerge. I work from the belief, widely upheld at Trevor since 1930, that children are the center of our mission. And that it is our responsibility to build strong community around our students. For, in so doing, we empower the young people in our charge to discover not only their talents and passions, but all that inspires them to forge a path to their vocations. We do that best by telling our stories to each other. In the following pages, you will find stories about curiosity, commitment, and connection—all qualities that we believe are key to education. Whether it's the story of our new trustees, who give so selflessly to Trevor...the pursuits of the Class of 2018...the growing alumni program that seeks to reconnect us with each other...the experiences of service learning and the Middle School Student Council, both of which shape students' educational trajectories...the exciting vision for technology that has emerged from the focused work of our strategic plan and dedicated Tech Fellows... 0 3 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n W I N T E R 2 0 1 8 – 2 0 1 9 the impressive accomplishments of our faculty who are models of lifelong learning and teaching...or even my thoughts on being back in the history classroom and Trevor's overarching commitment to ambitious academics, engaged students, and balanced lives. Trevor continues to grow from its origins and helps each of us within the community to find and exercise our vocations. Here are some of the current stories that can be told about this remarkable school. We welcome your feedback and reaction. Sincerely yours, Scott R. Reisinger
