Letitia Osborne '82 CPR Program Developer and Sailor When did you begin at e Day School? I began in 1971, in the nursery school, and I graduated from 8th grade in 1982. What are some fond memories of e Day School? I loved being on the soccer team and having Mr. Cavar as a coach. I was the only girl on the team, and I don't recall any other teams having girls. Mr. Cavar was such a passionate teacher, and he encouraged us to be the best we could be. I'm sure his influence is why I am so passionate about teaching skiing and sailing. I learned from the best. Another great memory is from graduation. At the time, the tradition was that every graduate presented something at commencement. I roller- skated to disco music on the altar at the Church of the Heavenly Rest. We were asked to present something we were good at and, in 1982, roller-skating was a big part of my life. I also have fond memories from our yearly class trips to Putney, VT. e Day School was a nursery through Grade 8 school when you attended. What impact did your elementary years have on you as a person and on your educational journey? And, how did it prepare you for real life? TDS impacted my life in so many ways, and I attribute my success today to my early years of education there. It helped me develop excellent communication skills and confidence. I was encouraged to speak up and ask for help if I didn't understand. I believe the small class sizes also had a lot to do with helping develop my confidence, and the teachers were able to make sure no one slipped into the corner (or the cracks) unnoticed. e teachers were supportive and created an environment that helped foster learning, so I was able to develop the confidence and skills I needed to continue to enjoy school. Everyone was given the opportunity to contribute our thoughts and the time to do so in our own manner. We were also given freedom to choose some classes. And, we had free time in between classes to study, go to the art room, or just hang out with friends in the Common Room. I'm certain that the flexibility and freedom we were given at such a young age helped us develop great time- management skills and independence. I'm sure that's why so many TDS graduates are successful entrepreneurs. What schools have you attended, and what degrees and certifications do you have? After TDS, I attended e Lenox School (now e Birch Wathen Lenox School) for high school. I then went to the University of Connecticut, where, in 1990, I graduated with a BA in Latin American Studies and Spanish. In 2000, I graduated from Pace Lubin School of Business, where I earned an MBA in International Business and Marketing. Left: A self-assured Tish felt supremely comfortable in roller skates.
