Amanda Rose, Grades 6–8 English Teacher Honoring Amy Archer's Retirement If I had to guess, Amy Archer questions the idea of retiring and knows her name and the word do not belong in the same sentence. Amy never tires of things that make teaching, in her words, a "Magnificent Life": joy, challenge, humor, oddity, and the ever-present opportunity to learn, grow, and connect. e first memory I have of Amy—Ms. Archer—is from my demo lesson when I was interviewing for a position at Trevor. She glided into the classroom, took a spot by the window, folded her arms, and put a slight bend in her neck and hip. She projected warmth carried by a select few—people with many lives and layers. ose who observe regular moments with a sense of ease and awe. Over subsequent years, I discovered much about Ms. Archer— her childhood in New Jersey, a teaching career across the world, vast knowledge on endless topics, her love of paper and poems and pictures. All stories, sometimes secrets, were revealed in unexpected moments, in unassuming ways: a handwritten note, travel advice, a sidetracked conversation. At Trevor, Ms. Archer embodied what it means to teach with heart. She taught me to find every detail important, to get to know students in a real way, to lead (and live) with vulnerability. Her photography in Building the Future celebrates the Trevor community and the moments—big, small, quiet, and loud—that make us who we are. Ms. Archer is able to capture these moments because, aside from talent, she takes time not only to notice, but to listen. Amy Archer's next chapter is all her own, but she will never leave teaching. Her existence teaches us to find magnificent moments everywhere, and because they are—her presence is, too. To commemorate the success of Trevor's Building the Future Capital Campaign, the Development Office commissioned a portrait book, with pictures of the East Campus in various stages of construction, alongside images of facilities previously occupied by Middle and Upper School students at the West Campus. is portrait book is a stunning visual history of Trevor's past, present, and future. An accomplished and widely published photographer, Amy made many contributions to Trevor's digital image files during her tenure. 0 6 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n S U M M E R 2 0 1 9 – 2 0 2 0
