In Memorium Eve K. Kleger A treasured member of the Trevor Day School community, Eve was a friend, colleague, and leader. Her tenure at e Day School started in 1975 as a parent, when her daughter, Alison '86, enrolled as a nursery student. Mark '88 and Laura '90 soon followed—and Eve and her husband, David, began their family's impactful presence in full force. Eve began teaching English in 1982 and then became Director of Upper School. She was named Assistant Head for Academics in 1990. Dedicating their yearbook to her, the Class of 1988 wrote, "roughout our years at e Day School, she has taught us perseverance and thoughtfulness, sensitivity, and imagination….It is through her gracious patience, warmth, and understanding that we have grown to love and respect her. It is with much love and affection that we devote our yearbook to Mrs. Kleger." Eve played a vital role in leading Trevor's transition from being a Nursery–Grade 8 school to a Nursery–Grade 12 school in the 1990s. She was named Head of School at Village Community School (VCS) in 1996. Eve served on Trevor's Board of Trustees, as well as on several other boards, and was a leader in the independent school community. e regular flow of students who spent their elementary years at VCS and then joined Trevor for upper school is a lasting legacy of Eve's influence. Eve passed away peacefully on October 9, 2019, surrounded by her family. She is survived by Ali '86, Mark '88, and Laura '90; their respective spouses, Scott, Dorsey, and Justin; and her seven grandchildren. David predeceased her in 2012. As a fitting tribute, this past November, the Trevor Day School Performing Arts Department production of Middletown was dedicated to her memory. Eve K. Kleger's service and leadership as a teacher, administrator, trustee, and devoted parent have left an indelible mark on Trevor.
