A Letter from the Head of School Dear Trevor Community: Readers of our ursday Digest may recall this anecdote: During a meeting with the Student Council, a student posed this fitting question: "Besides COVID-19, what are you working on for Trevor?" Like all good questions, it was more important than my answer. It confirmed for me that despite the ongoing pandemic, students are focused on the life of the school and their academic careers—and for that I am grateful. I offered an enumeration of updates on behalf of Trevor's admini- stration, board, faculty, staff, students, and parent volunteers. ere is so much happening. In March 2022, we will host our five-year New York State Association of Independent Schools re-accreditation visit. In preparation, we have taken a deep review of our curriculum, pedagogy, program, and community and have presented it to our visiting committee for evaluation. It is a gift to be asked to regularly assess your growth and impact and it is a wonderful complement to our ongoing strategic thinking process. Also in March, we will launch our "Excellence at Trevor" Town Hall speaker series, designed to share insights into the school's future direction. We invite everyone in our community to attend these Town Hall webinars to learn more about the programs, the people, and the mission-aligned decisions we are implementing. Events are listed on the inside back cover; invitations will come via email. I hope you will all join us. We are revamping our approach to digital scholarship to widen its lens to include the use of digital tools and techniques, such as data visualization, text analysis, mapping, and multimodal publishing, to extend traditional methods of research across many disciplines. It is an effort that we have been working on for some time; it is, therefore, gratifying to learn that several Trevor alumni have pursued digital scholarship in college. We are all intent on keeping Trevor Together. Athletics has been a constant beacon in this effort, and the arc of our athletics and PE programs throughout the pandemic is illuminated on page 22. Old traditions are returning and new traditions are blossoming: Homecoming, Spirit Weeks, MiniTerm, the Parents Association's Skating Party, and planning for our second outdoor Commencement on Randall's Island on June 9th. We recently announced the return of the Parents Association's Auction Benefit, which will be held on April 26, 2022. We remain focused on nurturing an equitable and inclusive school. ese efforts are led by our Assistant Head of School for Inclusion, Equity and Community Affairs, Koreé Hood, who is highlighted in an article on page 28. is year's community theme of Interreligious Understanding & Conflict Resolution seeks to deliver a deeper understanding of religious and non-religious diversity within our community and beyond. Trevor continues to innovate and advance. Consider the magazine cover—featuring Trevor's Glow Show. Combining LED technology with translucent sculpting materials, this integration of art and technology pushed the whole Lower School student body to their creative heights. It is fitting that we share such an inventive interdisciplinary pursuit in an issue profiling alumnus Dennis Delgado '89—a multimedia artist and professor whose work incorporates extensive use of technology and a wide array of media. is essential interdisciplinary nature of how we approach the Trevor curriculum is also personified in the pursuits of alumna Melanie Paty '11. It's inspiring to see how Melanie has merged the fields of sustainability and finance to forge a challenging and meaningful professional path. We thank those in the alumni community who submitted class notes. We are prioritizing our connections with alumni, and looking ahead to safe ways to reconnect with you throughout the country—not just virtually—but also in person. I urge you all to read the curricular updates in our Trevor Translates segment, starting on page 16. e section begins with a comprehensive overview of the Lower School science curriculum, which prepares all of our students to be keen observers and critical thinkers. It then moves into the recent efforts to reimagine our Middle School history curriculum to meet the needs of our students as they grow to understand their country, the Constitution, and their citizenship. We also celebrate five years of our Mandarin program and the trajectory students have taken in this tight-knit academic community.
