T he Athletics and PE administrative team—Jeremy Fink, Assistant Athletic Director, and Alexi Donnelly, Administrative Assistant to Athletics and Physical Education, were instrumental in developing DragonsUnite, as was Athletic Trainer Monica Lorenzo. We started by offering two virtual classes per day, including Yoga, HIIT (high- intensity interval training), and Strength/Conditioning. Classes had an average of 10–15 attendees, although sometimes turnout ebbed or climbed up to as high as 30. No matter the number, however, we were there to support everyone who showed up. We also posted videos on how to loosen up "sticky hips" from sitting for long periods of time and how to set up an at-home workstation properly to limit the strain on one's neck and back. Once we felt that the inaugural program was running smoothly, we started looking for our next challenge. e feeling was that parents of younger children might need some mid-week support in getting their student excited about waking up and attending school remotely, so we created "Wednesday Wake-Up Family Dance Party" for our Lower School families. Each Wednesday, Ms. Donnelly would transform her living room into a Zoom dance party for the entire Lower School community—all before 8:00 am! We would host anywhere from 30–60 students, parents, teachers, and administrators each week— dancing to music and getting their bodies ready for the day. It was a great way to counter the "Groundhog Day" feeling that was so prevalent in spring 2020. Get the family together and join Ms.Donnelly for a 15 minute dance party before school! Every Wednesday @ 8:00am Shake off your midweek blues and bring your dancing shoes (or socks)! Siblings, PJs, pets, and coffee mugs are encouraged!
