What You May Have Missed 0 8 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n W I N T E R 2 0 2 1 – 2 0 2 2 Team Trevor at the Macy's anksgiving Day Parade Every year, on the fourth Thursday in November, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Every year, on the fourth Thursday in November, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade originates on Central Park West and travels 2.5 miles through Columbus Circle, down Sixth Avenue to Herald Square—delighting children and families along the route and all over the world. is year, Trevor sent a group of faculty/ staff (plus some of their family and friends) to join the parade; they handled the SpongeBob SquarePants balloon. Not to be outdone, senior Stella S. '22 performed on a float with the band Foreigner. And Jackie Monteleone (Grades 6–8 History Teacher) marched in step with the Ronald McDonald balloon. Here, Team Trevor reflects on this special day. Balloon Captain Susan Mezo Balloon Captain Susan Mezo (aka Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications) As a child, my parents took me to the Macy's anksgiving Day Parade every year. We'd leave the house at dawn armed with bagels, hot chocolate, and a few layers of clothing, to find a spot on Central Park West; my brother and I would sit on the curb under the blue police sawhorses and wait (seemingly forever) for the parade to arrive. Balloons, bands, celebrities, clowns…a day of family fun in its purest form. Never did I dream that one day I would be a part of it. Around 2007, that opportunity came my way. Since then, I can't imagine my life (or anksgiving) without the parade or my parade family. It's a day of unadulterated fun, adrenaline, and happiness that is well worth the lack of sleep from the previous night. I've been a balloon handler, a balloon captain, a parade marshal, and a zone marshal. Being IN the parade is an experience of a lifetime. Dressed in funny costumes, being cheered on by enormous crowds, and seeing the amazement and wonder in children's faces as a giant balloon floats over their heads is an indescribable feeling that I always treasure. On a day meant for giving thanks, I was grateful to share this experience with my Trevor colleagues, who I know felt the same emotions of elation, nostalgia, and togetherness that keeps me coming back to the parade every year. Nancy Florio, Nancy Florio, Lower School NursE e morning was nearly beyond my scope of reality. I found our Trevor SpongeBob crew—the welcome, the introductions, the warm-up exercises, the friendly atmosphere, the warmth of the Mezo family—so comfortable in this arena. ey were so professional and so mentally and physically ready to serve and do their part to make sure each and everyone was comfortable in their space! I could not have had a better experience. My heart was aglow for the first time in a long time. ... And I know I brought much of that day to the anksgiving Day table when I raised my glass at dinner in true thanks, in a year I will never forget. e memories and laughs will stay with me forever. i Jackie Monteleone Jackie Monteleone
