INSIDE TREVOR TREVOR TRANSLATES FEATURE AR TICLES ALUMNI Nyala S. '23: This HBCU trip has shown me people who look like me can succeed. It's shown me that I can make a difference as the new generation of Black children. Diorra W. '23: I came into this trip with a very particular mindset and expectations. I can confidently say that my mindset has changed and it has exceeded my expectations and I couldn't be happier that I attended. I can really tell how much work, thought, and energy was put into this trip. Makela S. '24: On the HBCU trip, I learned a lot about myself and was able to find my dream college, North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The tour of NCAT made me feel welcome and I felt that I had found my community. What made me feel at home was seeing other people that looked like me in one big space. Being with a group of people that look like you really made me feel whole, because I go to a predominantly white institution. I hope this experience will be shared with other students in the future, so they can feel the joy that I felt. Theo B. '26: Although the primary purpose of the trip wasi to learn about HBCUs and Black history, this experience brought everyone together as one family. At the beginning of the trip, we sat in our own seats on the bus, but as the trip progressed, we sat next to each other and had fun together. We connected and became like a mini- family away from home. I enjoyed everything about the trip and if I had the chance to go again, I would go with 100% certainty. Elizabeth F. '26: This trip was an amazing experience. I became closer to some of my fellow Black classmates; I got to learn about and see HBCUs and learned more about Black history. Walking around seeing what Black people had to go through made me so grateful for where we are as a people now. Another reason was the bus rides! We took naps, listened to music, played games, and talked with each other. Overall this trip is an experience I wouldn't trade for anything and I think that it is important for all Black kids, especially those in independent schools. Ilan P. '26: I would recommend that students use this trip to grow. After the museum visit and hearing what our tour guide told us we worked for, I felt like I had to go home and do better. n TREVOR DAY SCHOOL / 15
