Winter Track & Field Head Coach Gerard Connelly, Assistant Coach Isabel Esch, and Assistant Coach Antonnecier (Kim) James The Track & Field team faced one of its toughest winter seasons in history. With our NYCAL competitors stronger than ever and the winter weather being more of a factor than it has been in recent years, we are very proud to see this team persevere and walk away with a NYCAL team title on the boys side (won by one point!), multiple NYCAL Champion relay teams, a NYCAL Champion in an individual event, a few school records, and a ton of individual improvements. Our boys 4x200m (1:36.60) and boys 4x400m (3:42.93) relays both set school records throughout the season. Our 4x200m relay time is also currently a State Federation qualifying mark, which we set during our NYCAL Championship meet 4x200m relay win. Both of these relays were made up of Auren D., Aahron H., Nathan K., and Kent W., with Jake G., Sammy H., and Isaac K. as frequent alternates. Of that group, a special shoutout is due for Auren D., who was awarded the Marine Corps Semper Fi Award at the 2024 Marine Corps Holiday Classic at the Armory this season. Auren also qualified for the Adidas Indoor National Championship Meet in the 200m Dash. Our girls team was a bit smaller than in the past, but ended up being one of our strongest teams in recent years. Ilan P., who has shown plenty of success on the outdoor track but has never done winter track, won the Long Jump at the NYCAL Championship meet, tying her lifetime best of 16 feet and 3 inches. Ilan was also the runner-up in the Girls 55m dash at NYCAL Champs. Alongside Ilan, we saw a slew of athletes succeeding in the Long Jump event. Chais G., Alexis L., and Laila C. all found new strengths in the event and achieved personal records. On the distance side, we saw the continued growth of a very young group of determined runners. Isaac K. and Theo Y. both set the tone for the group early in the season by breaking the 5-minute barrier in the 1600m run and the 11-minute barrier in the 3200m. This inspired many other PRs from athletes like Peyton S., Charles H., Nathan K., Charlie G., Jordan A., and Zach L.G. Of this group, Isaac, Theo, Charles, and Peyton made up the NYCAL Championship-winning 4x800m relay team, with a time of 9:29.49. Olivia L. had one of the best seasons of her life. After multiple years of season-ending injuries, it was exciting to see her not only make it to the end of the season healthy but also step up in distance to the 1500m and to set huge PRs at the NYCAL Championship meet with times of 5:39.76 in the 1500m and 2:00.37 in the 600m. We are excited to see what this team has in store for the spring and beyond. 16 / TREVOR MAGAZINE WINTER 2023–24 Winter 2024 Recap AT H L E T I C S 16 / TREVOR MAGAZINE SPRING 2024–25
