to all students that writing is a process, and to strengthen the caliber of writing across the curriculum. Hannah Bryan, our newest English teacher, wrote the following about Charlie G. '25's work in the Writing Center: "Charlie works as one of our writing advisors. The Center's set up gives me the opportunity to hear Charlie coach his peers. He is direct, clear, humorous, and effective. He balances encouragement and feedback in thoughtful ways and attends to his clients with care and kindness. Charlie knows the content inside and out and presents instruction in accessible ways. When I see students like Charlie investing in our community so thoughtfully, I feel immense hope—our world will be a better place because of people like Charlie who engage humbly and thoughtfully with others." In the same model, the Math Tutoring Center was introduced as a peer-to- peer mentoring program to foster collaboration and academic growth. Tutors are assigned specific periods during the academic cycle to be on duty at the Math Center on the 8th floor, where tutees can drop by for help with math concepts, homework, or test preparation. This flexible, student-led approach creates a supportive learning environment where peers can relate to and assist each other. Tutees gain confidence, personalized support, and a stronger grasp of challenging material, while tutors develop communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills. Beyond improving math proficiency, the Math Tutoring Center builds connections, boosts self-esteem, and fosters a culture of encouragement and belonging. The Science & Coding Center was introduced in the fall of 2019 as a way of offering tutoring for science and programming classes, similar to what had been done in the Math and Writing Centers. This center's structure has evolved over the years; currently, the names of student tutors are collected at the beginning of the year, along with their available tutoring periods and subject proficiency. This information is shared digitally, and a hard copy is posted on the 9th floor's bulletin board. Many of the science and programming teachers put the information on their class pages as well. Students in need of assistance can then reach out to the tutors directly to set up meetings. Student agency and self-advocacy are core to its success. The World Languages Tutoring Center, led this year by senior Adriano P., provides students with valuable peer mentoring in Spanish, French, and Mandarin. Functioning as a structured yet flexible support system, the center offers assistance with grammar, writing, speaking, and overall comprehension. Tutoring sessions, typically held during free periods or after school, are a collaborative environment where students work through challenges with their peers' guidance. This peer-to-peer model benefits both mentees and mentors—mentees gain confidence and clarity while mentors reinforce their own skills through teaching. Adriano's leadership has been instrumental in the program's success, ensuring that sessions are engaging, productive, and welcoming for all. His dedication is evident—not only in creating an organized sign-up system but also in accommodating students' specific needs, such as mastering challenging grammar concepts or polishing a presentation. The commitment of student language tutors underscores the power of student-led initiatives in strengthening both academic skills and a sense of community at Trevor. n TREVOR DAY SCHOOL / 39 INSIDE TREVOR TREVOR TRANSLATES FEATURE AR TICLES ALUMNI
