a letter from the head of School Dear Trevor community: When a new Head of School takes office, he or she arrives in media res, in the midst of everything happening. e first months are always a time of excitement, discovery, and examination. What is one to make of this new school—its students, its faculty and staff, its parents, and its alumni? What are the day-to-day values and outlooks that emerge? I have asked myself these questions over and over since my arrival in July. And scores of people have also asked me, almost every day since my arrival, "how are you doing, Mr. reisinger?" So, what do I make of this community? at's easy—it is a daily inspiration and joy. Trevor is driven by a core mission that places children right at the center of everything we do. I believe there is no better way to educate. We look for the gifts, talents, and passions of our students, and engage them in the act of learning about their worlds. is is a mission that energizes our faculty, makes our curriculum more stimulating, and leads to stronger and more substantive student outcomes. 0 3 T r e v o r D ay S c h o o l n W I N T e r 2 0 1 4 – 2 0 1 5 is is a school infused with academic curiosity and fervent intellectual drive. is is also a community of profound happiness and compassion. I have witnessed this time and again: in the greetings of Pre-Kindergarteners at morning drop-off on east 89th Street; the smiles that adorn the faces of our Upper Schoolers; thoughtful questions posed in the Common Room; our Lower School assemblies filled with song and laughter; countless classes that engage students in true discovery; the conversations that fill the lobby of West 88th Street far beyond the end of a school day; the enthusiasm we heard from visitors to the Fall Festival; and the talent and social consciousness that were on display during the andrew Goodman assembly in November. is is, indeed, a special place of learning. Trevor is also a place of great promise and expectation. Within the next few months, we will have settled into our new, state- of-the art Upper School building on east 95th Street and jumped headfirst into the renovations of West 88th Street for our Lower School. Both projects are architectural reflections of what we hold dear—an approach to learning that celebrates the gifts inherent in all children, fosters true understanding through inquiry, promotes collaborative learning, and cultivates academic and personal excellence. is approach to education is celebrated in the pages that follow. I look forward to hearing your reactions to, and reflections on, the life of our school. ank you for your support, and for the hearty welcome. And, by the way, I am doing just fine. anks so much for asking. Scott r. reisinger
