A Letter from the Head of School Dear Trevor Community: So much has happened at Trevor since the publication of last winter's Trevor Magazine. e past year's successes attest to a promising future. For we strive each day to live our school's mission—a mission that focuses on academic and personal excellence and celebrates each child's individual gifts within a diverse community. e result is, and has been since the 1930s, the creation of lifelong learners and leaders who leave an indelible mark in this increasingly complex global community that we call home. Trevor is an institution of high distinction, a place of inquiry and optimism, and a school whose narrative continues to be written daily. is winter's magazine celebrates both the changes and continuities that abound at Trevor. e past year witnessed a remarkable transition in school life with the opening of our new Upper School at 312 East 95th Street, a state-of-the art building that embodies all we believe about education. In mid-May our upper schoolers moved to the new space from their home at 1 West 88th Street and we immediately began renovating the Andrew Goodman Building for the Lower School. In June, we bid farewell to our longtime homes at the Church of the Heavenly Rest and the East 89th Street townhouse. And finally, in September, our lower schoolers entered their newly renovated building and took their places, alongside their teachers, to write a new chapter in Trevor's history. We now have facilities that match the 0 3 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n W I N T E R 2 0 1 5 – 2 0 1 6 talents and ambition of our students and faculty—a worthy accomplishment in this magnificent city. is year also marked the completion of our 10-year reaccreditation process. In late October, a 17-member committee of educators, drawn from schools across New York State, visited Trevor for four days and assessed our program and curriculum against our mission and the New York State Association of Independent Schools' standards. While we await final word from the Association, we remain confident in our efforts from start to finish—a yearlong process of reflection, data gathering, discussion, and extensive writing and preparation, all of which involved diverse constituencies throughout the school. As the following pages illustrate, Trevor is well poised for the future. In January, our Board of Trustees, building on the extensive work done in recent years, will begin a thorough strategic thinking process that will similarly engage all of us—students, parents, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the school—to identify our major strategic priorities going forward for the next several years. New spaces, innovative programs, planning for the future, continuity coupled with change—in my second year as Head of School, I am more confident than ever that we are on the very best track for our students. I am told repeatedly that Trevor is "hot," and word on the street is overwhelmingly positive. Our admissions numbers confirm this as well. Our real success, however, is measured in the relationships between and among our talented faculty and students, and our alumni who go forth to make the world a better place. Enjoy reading this issue of Trevor Magazine, and enter for a moment into the life of our school. We look forward to hearing your comments and suggestions. And I thank you for your generous support and positive spirit as we enter Trevor's 87th year. Scott R. Reisinger
