Sister Act: e Calabrese Sisters Reminisce About Trevor Carly: It was helpful to have an older sister there. We were definitely independent, but also shared a lot of experiences— from Choreolab, to walking home together through Central Park. As students, what were you both most passionate about? Gaby: I really loved to write, and still do. I did a lot of creative writing in my free time— short stories, screenplays, etc. I definitely focused my attention on writing wherever I could in high school, and was also passionate about pursuing it (in some capacity) in college. Carly: At Trevor, I became passionate about dance. I choreographed a dance with all of the senior dancers from my class year and it was an amazing learning experience. It was a fun and creative outlet, and one of the first times that I learned the importance of communicating effectively. I was also passionate about the sciences at Trevor, particularly biology. I thought I wanted to pursue premed in college, though that changed soon after I began my freshman year at George Washington University. Did you have a favorite subject? Gaby: English was always my favorite. I remember taking a creative writing course with Ms. Murphy in middle school that I absolutely loved. We got to write our own short stories, plays, and poems. ere were no boundaries, which was always fun. I also loved dance class as a way to clear my head and de-stress. It really emphasized being creative, collaborative, and in the moment. Carly: I was really drawn to the sciences in high school, and my favorite subject was biology. I took advanced biology with Mr. McClintock my senior year, which I found very interesting, especially when we had the opportunity to dissect a cat. It was one of the most exciting learning experiences I've ever had. Were there Trevor experiences that have impacted how you approach what you are doing now? Gaby: I think the classes I gravitated toward in lower, middle, and high Were you and your sister close at Trevor? Gaby: We've always been very close, so it wasn't much different at school. While we had our own friends and interests, we would always hang out together in e Center or between classes. We both danced, played tennis, and worked as editors on the yearbook. 5 2 T R E V O R D AY S C H O O L n FA L L 2 0 1 7 – 2 0 1 8 Carly Calabrese '12 enrolled at Trevor in Kindergarten, and Gaby Calabrese '10 enrolled in the 4th grade.
