This award is given to organizations whose work embodies the qualities most valued by Tanenbaum's late- founding board member Adam Solomon: leadership, strategic vision, and creativity. Specifically, this award recognizes Trevor's signature Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI) initiative for 2021−22 (Religious Diversity and Conflict Resolution) as a model for transformative community building in K−12 schools. Tanenbaum was an integral partner in helping Trevor execute this signature DEI initiative, and by every account, it was a success. We involved skilled presenters and educators and offered thoughtful workshops. The year culminated in the screening of Shared Legacies, produced by Trevor parent Lisa Weitzman, and a panel of insightful religious leaders. Scott Reisinger accepted the award on behalf of Trevor and the school's DEI practitioners— Koreé Hood, Debra Alleyne-James, Eugenia Nascimento, Emily Riggins, and Joseph Ulitto. His remarks included the following: The Tanenbaum Center for Interreligious Understanding's mission of promoting justice and building respect for religious difference complements so many of the Trevor community's beliefs. Woven throughout our curriculum—whether that be in English, or history, or Diversity, Equity & Inclusion—we teach that in order to create a more just and equitable world, we must first come to know and value other people's traditions and stories. And to further effect change and promote justice in the world, we often need to raise our voices and take action. These values are so vital to us that they form a major part of the school's mission statement. It includes these lines: Trevor celebrates diversity of thought, experiences, and culture; promotes compassion, collaboration, courage, and creativity; and develops in children a recognition of their own unique potential as lifelong learners and leaders who act as responsible global citizens. Tanenbaum's message of building respect for religious differences is critical today. By creating the time and space to grapple with the challenges of a culturally divided world, and to cultivate respect for difference, people not only become more engaged and balanced in their perspectives toward others, but they can also ultimately embrace those with whom they may not always share common ground. To receive this award is to share core values with this extraordinary organization, and that is the true honor. n TREVOR DAY SCHOOL / 17
