Deanna: Was Mr. Scholz ever your teacher? Mr. Feigin: No, he started when I was in the 6th or 7th grade. But that would've been great! Deanna: What was your favorite class? Mr. Feigin: PE! I also liked language arts and English, and I wound up studying those all the way through college. I really enjoy reading and talking about books. Arthur: Who was your favorite teacher and why? Mr. Feigin: I had many favorite teachers, but one was definitely Mr. Cavar, who was the PE teacher. He would always let us play in the gym, even before and after school. He was always enthusiastic about encouraging us to be active, and he taught us so much. He was a soccer player growing up in Croatia, so soccer was really important to him, and we played that sport with him a lot. I actually ended up playing soccer all the way through college. And I think I was a decent player because of the skills he taught me when I was young. Deanna: What was 5th grade like when you were at Trevor? Mr. Feigin: Fifth grade was great because we were the oldest class in what we called the Middle School, ready to move on to grades 6–8 (which we called Upper School then), and we got to do many unique things as a grade. We actually went on a trip to Putney, Vermont for four days. It was a long bus ride, which was great in and of itself, but it led to the most fun week! Deanna: What was your favorite project or experience at Trevor? Mr. Feigin: When I was in Middle School, we performed in musicals. Thinking back, if I had had the choice, I might not have chosen to be a part of it. Luckily, however, everyone in the entire 6th, 7th, and 8th was required to participate. I'm so glad, because it was incredibly fun and eye opening. Deanna: Were you a main character? Mr. Feigin: Oh my gosh, NO! I'm a terrible singer, and I'm a terrible actor. But, in one show, Hello Dolly!, I got to be a waiter. We all had trays, and they glued the glasses onto the trays so we could dance around and the glasses wouldn't fall off. There was a strap underneath attached to our hand, so we could even turn them upside down. I thought that was the coolest thing ever! It was one of my favorite experiences at Trevor. Has that ever happened to you? That you enjoyed something you initially didn't want to do? Deanna: Yes, my parents made me go to Bryant Park the other day and I didn't show it, but I didn't want to go. But we went and I saw there was an ice-skating rink there. I asked my parents if we could skate, and we had such a good time! Mr. Feigin performs in Hello, Dolly! Mr Feigin is in the middle of the second row of his 5th-grade class.
